Life Is A Gift

Today before you think of saying an unkind word -

Think of someone who can’t speak.

Today before you complain about life -

Think of someone who went too early to heaven.

And when you are tired and complain about your job -

Think of the unemployed, the disabled and those who wished they had your job.

But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another -

Remember that not one of us are without sin and we all answer to one maker.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down -

Put a smile on your face and thank God you’re alive and still around.

Life is a gift, Live it, Enjoy it, Celebrate it, And fulfill it.

Lucky Patient?

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man
was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help
drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room’s only
window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The
men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families,
their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service,
where they had been on vacation.

Every afternoon when the man
in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by
describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the
window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one
hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all
the activity and color of the world outside.

The window
overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the
water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm
in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city
skyline could be seen in the distance.

 As the man by the
window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other
side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by.

 Although
the other man couldn’t hear the band - he could see it in his mind’s
eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed….

One
morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths, only to
find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died
peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital
attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed
appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the
window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure
he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.

He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed.

 It
faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have compelled
his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside
this window

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, “Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.”

Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.

Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can’t buy.

“Today is a gift, that’s why it is called the present.”

The Cookie Regret

A young lady was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a big airport.

As she would need to wait many hours, she decided to buy a book to spend her time. She also bought a packet of cookies.

She sat down in an armchair, in the VIP room of the airport, to rest and read in peace.

Beside the armchair where the packet of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next seat, opened his magazine and started reading.

When she took out the first cookie, the man took one also. She felt irritated but said nothing. She just thought:

“What a nerve! If I was in the mood I would punch him for daring!”

For each cookie she took, the man took one too.

This was infuriating her but she didn’t want to cause a scene.

When only one cookie remained, she thought: “ah… What this abusive man do now?”

Then, the man, taking the last cookie, divided it into half, giving her one half.

Ah! That was too much!

She was much too angry now!

In a huff, she took her book, her things and stormed to the boarding place.

When she sat down in her seat, inside the plane, she looked into her
purse to take her eyeglasses, and, to her surprise, her packet of
cookies was there, untouched, unopened!

She felt so ashamed!! She realized that she was wrong…

She had forgotten that her cookies were kept in her purse.

The man had divided his cookies with her, without feeling angered or bitter.

…while she had been very angry, thinking that she was dividing her
cookies with him. And now there was no chance to explain herself…nor to
apologize.”

There are 4 things that you cannot recover.

The stone…

…after the throw!

The word…

…after it’s said!

The occasion…

… after the loss!

The time…

…after it’s gone!

The Wedding Gift

Everyone in the wedding ceremony was watching the radiant bride as her father escorted her down the aisle to give away to groom.

They
reached the altar and the waiting groom; the bride kissed her father
and placed some thing in his hand. Everyone in the room was wondering
what was given to the father by bride.

The father could feel the
suspense in the air and all eyes were on him to divulge the secret and
say something. So he announced "Ladies and Gentlemen today is the
luckiest day of my life." Then he raises his hands with what his
daughter gave him and continued, "My daughter finally, finally returned
my credit card to me."

The whole audience including priest started laughing but not the poor groom.

2 lane or 4 lane?

A  man walking along a California beach was deep in prayer. All of a

sudden he said out loud,

"Lord grant me one wish."

Suddenly the sky clouded above his head and in a booming voice the Lord

said,

"Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant

you one wish".

The man said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii, so I can drive over anytime I

want to."

The Lord said,

"Your request is very materialistic. Think of the logistics of that

kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the

Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is

hard

for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more

time and think of another wish, a wish you think would honor and

glorify

me."

The man thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, "Lord, I

have been married and divorced four times. All of my wives said that I

am

uncaring and insensitive. I wish that I could understand women. I want

to know how they feel inside, what they are thinking when they give me

the silent treatment, why they cry, what they mean when they say

'nothing' and how I can make a woman truly happy."

After a few minutes God said,

"You want two lanes or four on that bridge?"
